Winter 2014-15

Infiltrated the neighboring beach to paint some rocks, I got a small one in, then got booted out.

I often drove by this power plant, and found a little trail down to a beach where I could set up. First attempt was a bust because of the flash blizzard, but I went back in calmer weather.

Fall 2014

Starting to explore my area, Cove Point Lighthouse is a mile walk from our house, and the other paintings were done from the beach in our neighborhood.

Just after my last post, about a year ago, we moved to what we hope is our last stop, Lusby, Maryland, which overlooks the Chesapeake Bay. I have been painting since we arrived as there is endless painting fodder about, even through the snow and cold. I will attempt to post my studies in order from oldest to most recent.

This is me setting up at Flag Ponds Park, one of my favorite places.

Still Life Spring

Since I haven't posted for a while, I'll bunch all of these into one post. These are some still lifes I painted this spring. Setting them up is a challenge - great exercise in composition.

In March, I attended a workshop with landscape painter John Poon at the Greenbriar Resort in Lewisburg, WV. We painted from photos he supplied, and it was an inspiring and productive week. John Poon is an amazing painter and teacher, and you can see his work at www.johnpoon.com.

Finished Color Charts

They are far from perfect, but I have finished my first round of paint charts which document all the tube paints I use and what they become when mixed with each other and lightened with white. A very useful and meditative exercise.
